By Les Wicks
Is fear the biggest factor in persistence?
Curiosity is always its enemy.
Feeding wars, theft & compromise
dread has treacherous hours
kills the rare certainties
to replace them with newbaked versions
that are febrile, wrongheaded & destructive.
Idea. Ideal. Deal.
I have known arms, eyes, spirit.
yet turned away as
fingers rolled across my spine.
That inexplicable process
sure you too.
The sun emerges
on this turgid day.
Do some drift in the life trees enjoy
before they become lumber?
Without curiosity we can perhaps
be a serene, planted ignorance.
Steal & abandon
humans need to spend as much time
focused on dismantlement
as they do on the build.
Accomplished by rage
or inquisitiveness.
There are vital explorations.
My toddler granddaughter is amazed
by a puddle on the slide.
Her fingers read a Braille
incomprehensible to me but I still learn.
Curiosity is an engine of splendour…
it is budding the new roots
shade & shaping of light.
What comes after life?
Back to this again.
Perhaps a question not powerful enough
to divert some from the choice.
Though there are so many other things
the opiates of a beach
how a page fills.
An email comes in from Tony.
After 12 hours online
& amphetamines
now he knows.
With a criminal inertia I encourage him.
