Jackie Benney

Jackie lives in south-west Sydney and has been teaching in the secondary education system as a visual arts teacher and learning support teacher coordinator for over 20 years. Her artwork, containing a strong social justice focus, has been exhibited in solo shows since 2007. She works predominantly in drawing media with brush and ink, as well as working on figurative subject matter which depicts concepts stemming from her everyday interactions and experiences. An enduring thread in her practice has been the plight of asylum seekers and the innocence of children. Jackie worked as a volunteer for two years at Villawood detention centre providing art classes for children and mothers.
