Decades

By Katherine Heneghan.

I circle and dip

in warm rising air

One wingspan

above the water

You wave and still

and never say when

So many perfectly

salted surrenders

But the weather—

east coast lows and southerly busters

I tell myself I outflew you

A gull

can’t outfly the ocean
