Jacquei Hicks

After years talking about it, I enrolled in the Master of Writing to explore possibilities. I have been a librarian and a teacher for most of my working life. Born of farming stock, I grew up in Cowra where a small number of the community were the children of migrants, refugees from World War II, whose stories were woven into the fabric of my childhood. I have worked with those who risked everything, climbing onto leaky boats to journey from Indo-China, and taught the children of families displaced by war, and, increasingly, climate change. Hence the theme of my poems.
